By Linda Pastan
What we want
is never simple.
We move among the things
we thought we wanted:
a face, a room, an open book
and these things bear our names--
now they want us.
But what we want appears
in dreams, wearing disguises.
We fall past,
holding out our arms
and in the morning
our arms ache.
We don't remember the dream,
but the dream remembers us.
It is there all day
as an animal is there
under the table,
as the stars are there
even in full sun.

Back in the saddle.

I tried to duck training camp this year. Sign-ups happened while I was still in Sweden, so I easily talked myself out of it. Why, after a month off the bike, would I choose to suffer through a weekend full of climbing up the monstrous hills of Bodega Bay?

Well, my good friend E. informed me that "not being in shape" was, in fact, a really bad excuse to avoid training camp (given that most people go to training camp for the purpose of getting IN shape).
So I went. What I'd forgotten about was all of the other reasons people go to training camp:
Good riding.

Amazing weather. Beautiful views.

Great people and good eats.

What more could I ask for?
